Community Vertical Pod Autoscaler

Chainguard's redistribution of the stevehipwell vertical-pod-autoscaler Helm chart, pre-configured with hardened Chainguard Images for the three Vertical Pod Autoscaler components (admission-controller, recommender, updater). CRDs are installed by Helm from the chart's crds/ directory.

This chart supersedes charts/vertical-pod-autoscaler, which tracks the no-longer-maintained cowboysysop chart (frozen at appVersion 1.5.0, whose CRDs predate fields current VPA releases write).

Prerequisites

Authentication is required to access this chart and its images. First, authenticate with Chainguard and configure your environment:

chainctl auth configure-docker --pull-token --save
helm registry login cgr.dev

Create an image pull secret in the target namespace:

Migrating from charts/vertical-pod-autoscaler

Values differ between the two upstream charts. Key changes:

• Image values no longer have separate registry/digest fields; each component uses <component>.image.repository and <component>.image.tag.
• CRDs are installed by Helm from the chart's crds/ directory instead of a pre-install kubectl Job (the crds.* values are gone). Helm does not upgrade CRDs on helm upgrade; when migrating an existing install, apply the updated CRDs once with kubectl apply before installing.
• Pull secrets are set via top-level imagePullSecrets rather than global.imagePullSecrets.
• Review upstream's values documentation for the rest before migrating.
