Impact
The vulnerable component is the Rust crate hickory-proto. Per the GitHub Security Advisory at https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-3v94-mw7p-v465, hickory-proto is listed as affected with no published fixed version (vulnerable range >=0.25.0-alpha.3,<=0.25.2). The advisory also tracks a sibling crate hickory-net which has a published fixed version (0.26.1), but hickory-proto itself has no firstPatchedVersion declared, and shadowsocks-rust depends on hickory-proto directly. Without an upstream patched release of hickory-proto, this issue cannot be closed by routine dependency-bump automation. A pending-upstream-fix advisory event is justified: the issue should reflect that we are awaiting upstream hickory-dns maintainers to publish a fixed release of the hickory-proto crate.
