Impact

spring-webmvc 5.3.39 is affected by CVE-2026-47884. Upstream has published a fix only in Spring Framework 7.0.9; GHSA-pc63-qcmh-9cmg records no patched release on the 5.3.x, 6.0.x, 6.1.x or 6.2.x lines. GeoServer 2.28.5 is built against the javax.servlet API, whereas Spring Framework 7 requires jakarta.servlet, so the upgrade fails to compile against GeoServer's own controller sources. Adopting the fix requires a GeoServer release built on Spring 7 and Jakarta EE. GeoServer 3.0 images already carry the fixed Spring version.
