Impact

postcss 7.0.39 contains a vulnerability fixed in postcss 8.4.31 (CVE-2023-44270). It is a transitive dependency of the webpack 4 asset-compilation toolchain (postcss-modules-scope/-values/-local-by-default@2 via css-loader) pinned by upstream GitLab 18.11 and cannot be directly overridden: postcss 8.x removed the postcss.plugin API that chain requires, so forcing it breaks asset compilation. Resolution requires upstream GitLab to migrate the 18.11 asset pipeline off webpack 4.
