Impact

Spark 3.4 has reached end of life (EOL), and new images are no longer being built. We strongly recommend upgrading to Spark 3.5 to ensure continued support and access to the latest updates.

Impact

The remaining avro 1.7.7 dependency that exist in the spark-3.4 package is brought as a transitive dependency via hadoop-client-runtime-3.3.6.jar. These transitive dependencies from hadoop-client-runtime-3.3.6.jar are not able to be upgraded to a higher version and require upstream maintainers to implement.

This relates to avro v1.7, which is a transitive dependency of the shaded JAR hadoop-client-runtime, which is used by Spark. There are no newer versions of this shaded JAR available to fix the vulnerability.
