Impact

The spring-context dependency at version 5.3.39 contains a vulnerability (GHSA-4wp7-92pw-q264) that is fixed in Spring Framework 6.1.20. This is a transitive dependency brought in via upstream Apache ActiveMQ 5.19.6 and cannot be directly overridden. Resolution requires:

  • Upstream Apache ActiveMQ to update its POM to depend on Spring 6.x, or upstream Spring to backport the fix to the public 5.3.x branch
  • Current blocker: Spring 5.3.x OSS releases stop at 5.3.39 (post-5.3.39 fixes are only in Tanzu Spring commercial support); Spring 6.x requires the javax.* -> jakarta.* Jakarta EE namespace migration, which upstream ActiveMQ 5.x has not adopted See: https://spring.io/projects/spring-framework#support
