Impact

serialize-javascript 4.0.0 is vulnerable to CPU exhaustion DoS (GHSA-qj8w-gfj5-8c6v), fixed in 7.0.5. Upgrading from 4.x to 7.x is a three-major-version jump. OpenSearch Dashboards 2.x uses Node.js 18 and has not validated compatibility with serialize-javascript 7.x. The v3 variant successfully uses ^7.0.3, but v2.x's older runtime and dependency tree may not be compatible. Resolution requires upstream OpenSearch Dashboards 2.x to update their serialize-javascript dependency.
