CVE-2026-97399 (glibc bug 34683) is a one-byte overread in the POWER8 strncasecmp implementation, sysdeps/powerpc/powerpc64/power8/strcasecmp.S. The upstream fix, commit 34106fee698c83eb0af71d4d0381e66b399be746 on release/2.44/master, changes only that file, a test and the test's Makefile entry. Chainguard builds glibc-2.44 for x86_64 and aarch64 only, so this powerpc-only code is not included in the package.
