Impact

Upgrading github.com/prometheus/prometheus from v0.307.3 (vulnerable range >= 0.45.2, < 0.311.3) to the fixed v0.311.3 introduces a breaking change in Tempo 2.9.x:

  • Prometheus removed the github.com/prometheus/prometheus/tsdb/errors package in its 3.x release line (v0.311.x).
  • Tempo 2.9.x's modules/generator/storage/instance.go imports github.com/prometheus/prometheus/tsdb/errors directly, so go mod tidy fails after the bump.
  • No intermediate fixed version exists within the GHSA's vulnerable range. Resolution requires an upstream Tempo change before this bump is viable.
